Operating Systems
Understanding Operating System
There are many things, which we see regularly but fail to understand. We just know that it exists, but do not know how does it work and how helpful it is. You certainly know that a computer has a screen, keyboard, mouse and a CPU. In CPU, there are plenty of things like processor and hard disk. There are two main parts in any compute, hardware and software.
In software department, you need an operating system, which will allow other programs to run smoothly. It is like a door, which can be used by many people to come in or go out. If that door is wide enough, which can give access to all, your computer will run smoothly because there will be no bar for any software. If that door is not that wide, it may bar access to few.
As per this example operating system, hold the key to compatibility of different software’s. This is what we see but do not understand. We frequently see Windows operating system being used on computers but fail to understand why. There are many operating systems available for computer users. Windows from Microsoft, Apple/Mac, and UNIX are some of them. In that long list of operating systems, Microsoft enjoys around 70% of the market share. That is too big a chunk in this era of competitive market.
So, why Windows has that kind of dominance on operating system market? To be very frank enough, Windows has succeeded in creating biggest or widest door, which can give access to almost all software programs. Other operating systems are not bad at all but those systems fail to provide compatibility for other software programs.
