Microsoft Codeplex to support Mercurial
Microsoft is definitely expanding its boundaries. It seems that the tech giant has learnt a major business lesson. It has started making collaborations with the most popular platform and merging ideas to deliver better products. So here is the current update of MS.
It has decided to provide support to the mercurial. It is extending support to the cross –platform tool. Mercurial is a revision tool for the software programmers and developers. This tool is supportive to the Python also supports basic C programming. Mercurial was to run only on the Linux flavors. Recently it adapted to the Windows Mac and other OS. Microsoft has extended its support to the mercurial based on the feedback it received from the Codeplex community members.
Codeplex is an open source website that hosts projects. The Microsoft owns Codeplex; it allows the entire team to share the developmental work of any open source software. It has various features like wiki pages, discussion forums, project tracking, issue tracking, RSS support.
Sara Ford, program manager, Codeplex explained that the inclusion of the mercurial on the Codeplex was done, owing to the increasing popularity of the Distributed Version Control System. The DCVS are extensively used by most of the developers. Codeplex is an excellent platform that holds a wide range of projects or application development environments. The Codeplex supports the back ends like SQL WPF.
The frontend supported by it is mainly .Net framework that is inclusive of ASP. Net. This also includes the Microsoft SharePoint, which is actually a collaborative intranet server. It also includes the first ever application AJAX Control Toolkit created using Codeplex.
When one logs on to the Codeple.com for the first time, he will be able to choose the source control repository either from the Team Foundation Server or the Mercurial. This will be convenient for the user as Mercurial also supports the Windows based tools. According to Ford, the current members of the Codeplex had stressed that they would prefer to transit from the Team Foundation Server to Mercurial. But they said that they would prefer the assistance of the Tech giant. Likewise, the Redmond Company has accepted to provide all the assistance required to the Codeplex user.
The transit was an expected one as the mercurial is highly diversified control system and is excellent tool to collaborate an open source project. Mercurial actually allows the user to change its settings and clone it. The user should be able to create local repositories and change the settings of the repository. These and many more features of mercurial have affected the popularity of it, and has thus caused this incorporation.
