Hardware Issues Have An Effect On Computer Performance

When a computer has a hardware problem it may actually have an overall effect by slowing it down and even bringing on freeze-ups. Your computer's CPU has to direct any attached hardware what to do, when run, etc. This includes monitors, printers, mouse, keyboards and so on.

In order for a printer to work correctly there will need to be a driver and possibly other software loaded onto the computer. If the printer's software gives a problem it may cause problems for the other aspects of the PC.

I came across a good example of this not too long ago. The PC causing the trouble was attached to a combination printer, scanner, copier and fax unit. Because of the multiple uses there was a "suite" of software loaded onto the computer to make all these separate features functional. And here is the problem... at least many times. It will get complicated.

The printer's software was not working correctly and had a pop-up asking for an update to be downloaded. The update would download but when it attempted to install it would stop and say it was not able to. There was in addition a Windows program update that would not install correctly that was apparently part of a repair for the printer from Windows.

At first the problem could be fixed by shutting down the computer and starting it back up or restarting the printer and everything would go back to working. But it became more and more difficult to get it working like it ought to. The scanner part had completely stopped working with the pc saying it could not find the unit for a scan even though it would still print OK.

After trying updates from the printer company's internet site for a fix and from Windows without success we went on to the last option. We completely un-installed (utilizing the Windows utility in Tools) and then re-installed the printer program from the CD that originally came with it when it was new. But don't forget to remove all areas of the printer suite first.

Try this easy next step and do not throw away any more time or money. Check out the Slow Computer blog site. There's a lot of useful information on - computer runs slow - at the blog site.
