Must do for Microsoft in year 2010
Year 2009 was overall bad for the entire world with, recession hitting the economy giants. Microsoft too went through a rough patch. The sales had slowed down. Office and Windows did not leave a mark in their sales too. The economical status of the world was bad (it is still improving); in such situations, few technology-based businesses did better.
The main problem with Microsoft was that their lack of flexibility and understanding of market situations. Earlier Microsoft had few rivals and could act on their terms Microsoft. Now Microsoft has many rivals and list is ceasing to end. Newer ideas and technology evolving and improving are making the market situations difficult for Microsoft.
Therefore, here are few suggestions from the market surveyors:
- Make Windows affordable; cut down its cost.Windows has become too expensive. In addition, it has to compete with Linux, which is almost free with configuration specifications and less now of add-ons. Now, the customer is least bothered of the type of OS that is loaded on their PC as long as their work is achieved. If that is coming at the least possible price; then nothing can make the consumer happy. Resultant of this the Windows sales have in slumped. If Microsoft has to stay put in the race then it will have to cut down the cost of its products by half of its current price.
- Make Microsoft office free (well almost!) Cutting down the cost only of the OS is not going to help the Microsoft. It will also have to slash down the cost of the Microsoft office. Not just that the Microsoft office should be packaged and released complete for the consumers. Well though the Microsoft is on the edge of doing so, by launching the Microsoft office 2010, it still is not creating the ring. Many a products are available that are far more efficient and robust as compared to Microsoft office. Microsoft should also consider declaring lower costs for the servers. The cloud-computing is gaining popularity. Microsoft should now get moving.
- Forget about the Zune. Microsoft made grave mistakes and lost battles to its rivals. But looks like it has learnt nothing. It still tries and makes efforts, waste time and money in the directions, which are not open anymore. Microsoft certainly needs to accept failures bury them and get on.
- Go ahead and buy Yahoo: Instead of competing with Yahoo, Microsoft should just go ahead and own it. Yahoo is still leading web search portal. Instead of creating “bing”, it should have accepted Yahoo as it is, and make enjoy the shares.
