I would argue though that the average non-technical user really doesn't want to get under the bonnet this much (just as the average motorist doesn't want to get their hands oily). And anyway, why should you have to disable half of the "pretty" things that you have paid for when you purchased your Windows computer? Get more memory! It's really cheap these days. When you have enough RAM and diskspace and CPU the only other things you need are Internet Security related.
