Microsoft modifies Browser Ballot again
Microsoft has refurbished the browser ballot screen according to demands by European Union antitrust regulators. Now, it may get ultimate approval according to a reliable source.
As per the reports of the Bloomberg news services, Microsoft has customized the ballot screen subsequent to changes demanded by rivals. Few days before, Google, Opera and Mozilla submitted request of changes to be made to the European Commission, suggesting that the order of the browsers must be randomized. Furthermore, this report also asked for the ballot to be displayed in its individual application and not in the Internet Explorer.
For leveling out the playing field, the commission needs Microsoft to allow consumers determine which browser they want to use. Earlier, Microsoft had twisted the ballot for achieving the preliminary approval from commission. At first, Microsoft agreed to this ballot approach for finding out solution to resolve the case. According to reliable source report, Opera, IE, Firefox, Apple’s Safari and Chrome, - will come into view in random order every time the ballot is shown.
Mozilla had been the mainly speaking regarding how the ballot would represent choices. A Firefox user experience designer, Jenny Boriss, put forward the layout for ballot. He also added that it will give Internet Explorer almost three times more space as compared to rivals. This is because the ballot would be represented in Internet Explorer.
Chief technology officer at Opera, Hakon Wium Lie, granted with Mozilla that making the random orders of the browsers on the ballot is the better option than original idea of Microsoft. The original idea of Microsoft was to list browsers according to alphabetical order by maker, in such a way that would put Safari by Apple in the favorite left-hand position. According to sources, this deal is expected to be finalized as early as possible, whilst EU commissioners meet for polling on a number of issues.
If the all information and date is perfect, Microsoft would start pushing the ballot to European users of Windows 7, XP and Vista in mid-February. After getting approval for the ballot screen, it will be delivered to users. They will be offered an option for browsers only if they have put Internet Explorer as the default Web application. New PCs that are sold in the EU will also contain the ballot screen. This will appear at the first time the possessor attempts to go on the Internet.
